Vehicle-to-Home (V2H) Backup Power Systems
Your truck is already parked in the driveway. Why not use it to power your home?
The next generation of backup power is here. Vehicle-to-Home (V2H) charging technology allows you to use the massive battery inside your electric vehicle (EV) to power your entire house during a Fort McMurray blackout. No gas cans, no noise, and no maintenance.
At Crescent Electric, we are at the forefront of bi-directional V2H charging in Fort McMurray. We install the specialized chargers and isolation switches needed to safely unlock your EV's full potential.

How Does V2H Work?
Standard EV chargers are "one-way" streets—they push power from the grid into your car. Bi-directional chargers are "two-way" streets. When the power goes out, the system automatically:
1. Disconnects from Grid
Isolates your home from the utility grid to protect linemen.
2. Reverses Power Flow
Switches electricity direction from your EV battery to your home.
3. Powers Your Home
Runs your furnace, fridge, and lights using your truck's battery.

A fully charged Ford F-150 Lightning Extended Range has enough energy to power a typical home for 3 to 10 days, depending on usage.
Systems We Install
From seamless automatic backup to cost-effective manual solutions.
Ford Intelligent Backup Power
If you own a Ford F-150 Lightning, this is the gold standard. We install the Ford Charge Station Pro combined with the Home Integration System.
- Seamless: The switch happens automatically when the grid goes down.
- High Power: Delivers up to 9.6kW of power—enough to run your furnace, well pump, and even 240V appliances like your stove.
General V2H & V2L Connections
For other vehicles (like the Hyundai Ioniq 5, Kia EV6, or upcoming Chevy Silverado EV), we install manual transfer switches that utilize the vehicle's 'Vehicle-to-Load' (V2L) outlets.
- Cost-Effective: A simpler solution that lets you plug your truck directly into a transfer switch (similar to a portable generator).
Why Hire a Specialist?
Connecting a high-voltage vehicle battery to your home's main panel is not a DIY job. It requires:
Bi-Directional Equipment
Standard chargers cannot do this. You need specific hardware designed for two-way power flow.
Grid Isolation
You must legally and physically disconnect from the grid before backfeeding power. We install the required Automatic Transfer Switches (ATS).
Permits
As Master Electricians, we handle the complex permitting required by the RMWB for energy storage systems.
